JOB POSTING - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Telluride Theatre is a well-established, non-profit theater company that has been serving Telluride and the surrounding area for over 30 years. The company is composed of two staff members, six board members, 14 ensemble members, and countless community artists throughout the year. Telluride Theatre is core to our community and a beloved gathering space for artists and audiences. 40% of our budget goes right back to paying artists and contract workers. Locally produced, Telluride Theatre creates a full year of productions, events, education and so much more.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Executive Director is responsible for the leadership and management of Telluride Theatre. This position manages the business aspects of the company with a primary focus on development and finance; including strategic planning, financial planning, fundraising and goal setting. The Executive Director oversees and manages staff, contracted labor and volunteers. The Executive Director must be an excellent communicator and be able to manage creative, passionate individuals. Our ideal candidate is a team player, who is not scared of getting dirty or doing what is required to get a job done. We need a motivated, fun, skilled, passionate, detail-oriented and thoughtful individual to join our small but mighty staff.
Status: This is a Salaried, Full-time position (Flex full time. Approx 40 hrs/week, but there may be some weeks when in production where more is required and some weeks (off-season) when things slow down. Hours will be determined in advance.)
Location: Telluride, CO - The executive director will work from the Telluride Theatre office in the Town of Telluride, but may be able to work from home as needed.
Reports To: Telluride Theatre Board
Salary: $70,000+ (DOE) - bonus program, benefits package & room to grow
DUTIES
COMMUNITY LIAISON/OUTREACH
• Represent Telluride Theatre in the community; advocate mission, vision, and values.
• Serve as a confident and knowledgeable public speaker at community events & meetings.
PLANNING/MANAGEMENT
• Work with the Board and Artistic Director to set & monitor strategic priorities with clearly defined goals.
• Oversee staff, contract workers (including marketing & box office) and other personnel utilizing best practices.
• Evaluate all systems and implement improvements for increased efficiency.
• Build a strong, trusting relationship with Artistic & Producing leadership.
• Office management, with general programming & administrative support as needed.
• License, registration, and permit management.
• General organization - office, digital files, archives and storage.
• Maintain membership with local and regional theater associations.
PROGRAMMING
• Assist the Artistic Director with the direction and success of each season.
• Work with the Artistic Director on strategies to expand patron base and audience participation.
• Engage with potential community partners and collaborators.
FUNDRAISING
• Provide leadership for fundraising efforts, in collaboration with TT board and other staff.
• Develop increased donor support through cultivation of new donors, including trustee gifts.
• Manage annual donor & trustee program, including appeals & acknowledgement.
• Maintain donor database
• Identify and secure new earned and contributed revenue sources.
• Manage completion of grants, maintain grant database, complete reporting requirements, and sustain relationships with current, new and potential grant-giving organizations and individuals.
• Manage advertising- including prospects, meetings, materials, stewardship, and renewals.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
• Manage day to day financials. Maintain high standards of financial management and reporting.
• Liaison to bookkeeper, banking deposits, invoice/billing tracking, pay contract workers.
• Lead annual budget creation process in collaboration with Artistic Director and Board Treasurer.
BOARD LIAISON
• Organize board meetings and provide all reporting (finance, membership, patrons…)
• Serve as liaison to the Board. Accountable for timely, accurate, transparent communication.
• Review existing policy and recommend changes to the board when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in theater studies, arts management, management or related field.
• 3 years of experience in arts, nonprofit management or management.
• 5 years client-facing experience
• Strong financial and staff management skills.
• Experience with a diverse range of fund development strategies, including securing grants, gaining and sustaining sponsorships, and hosting special events.
• Excellent written & oral communication skills, strong presentation & persuasive skills
• Computer, digital literacy
• Ability to work in a hands-on, fast paced, creative environment with limited resources
• Client-facing experience
• A respect for tradition combined with a love for new ideas.
• Passion to cultivate a welcoming environment for diverse populations.
• Experience in conflict resolution and consensus-based decision-making.
• A driving ambition to improve upon past successes and learn from failures to make smart course corrections.
• Familiarity with aspects of theater production.
PLATFORMS This job is executed on the following platforms: Microsoft Suite, Quickbooks, Zoom, Google Drive, Apple, Square, Canva, Squarespace and ThunderTix. Experience with these platforms is a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS The work environment of Telluride Theatre has certain physical demands that must be met by employees to successfully perform essential functions of their job. Must be able to lift 50 lbs comfortably. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform those functions.
REQUIREMENTS The Executive Director will be required to work flexible hours where necessary. Must be able to work nights and weekends when needed.
